ECA Degree show

This picture is difficult to see but basically it was lots of peeled bark on board with varnish and paint applied ontop.

Throughout June I visited ECA (Edinburgh College of Art), Duncan of Jordanstone, and Gray's school of art's degree shows. Unfortunately i missed glasgow's degree show and i'm pretty gutted about that as i heard it was really good.

It was great seeing the talent from each art school and it just gets me excited for fourth year although i don't want it to come too soon! ECA and Gray's shows were both amazing, the type of work that really made you go wow. Dundee's was good although it didn't have that wow factor edinburgh and aberdeen's shows did.

Johan Grimonprez Exhibition

I went to see Johan Grimonprez's exhibiton at the Fruitmarket Gallery in Edinburgh at the beginning of the month. This artist is known for his films and his most well known pieces are 'Double Take' and 'Dial H-I-S-T-O-R-Y' a film collage about airoplane hijackings which include cartoons and propaganda films. I quite liked his piece 'Double Take', which is a sequel to his film 'Looking for alfred'. At first i was a little confused as to what was going on when i first viewed 'Double Take' as the film kept jumping from documentary footage to film. I soon clocked on that the film was about and by Alfred Hitchcock with TV stories and reports from the cold war. I feel asthough the only reason i enjoyed this piece was because i am a fan of Alfred Hitchcock and found his doppleganger quite amusing.

The exhibition on a whole was interesting and although his videos lasted up to 90 minutes, you found yourself not being able to leave your seat. For me i would probably rate it 3/5..

Right so far i've finished 1st year at grays...passed the year so pretty chuffed i've gotten into sculpture! Summer's started and already i'm bored.....pretty glad ive been given a summer project to do as i wouldn't know what to do with myself :(
Anyways the brief we were given is pretty vague... just telling me what sorts of galleries i should attend ,newspapers i should read and radio channels i should listen to and so on. So far i've signed up to some mailing lists at some of my favourite galleries in Edinburgh (my home town) :) as im goin to be staying here till september time.

the city and stars exhibition at the Stills gallery
Johan Grimonprez exhibiton at the fruitmarket gallery
Both the all sided games and the Torsten Lauschmann exhibition at the collective gallery
There's so many i want to see but these are a must at the moment and i'll be sure to blog on what i think of them..

Was at the Aberdeen Gallery last week and came accross a really interesting video by a guy called Sam Spreckley. Actually love his videos after watching a few on vimeo. The start of the video kinda reminds me of the ring where youd watch that creepy video and get a phonecall afterwards telling you you'd die 7 days later. I love the editing and how eery the video is.... I was pretty speechless after seeing it for the first time but I feel so inspired to actually do some work... He's definately become a favourite of mine.

First post.. cant believe it's taken me a year to finally get this started... It's guna be good so keep on reading...it'l be fun you'l love it.
